“He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the Churches.” Revelation 3:22
Jesus is not referring to our natural ability to hear, but rather, to our “inner spiritual ear” through which we receive the “anointed” Word of God. Because our spiritual ear is tremendously important, the word concerning our spiritual hearing is repeated in each of the messages to the seven Churches.
The word “Christ” primarily refers to the One who is “Anointed” (Jesus), and secondly, to the “Anointing,” or to those who are anointed.
“But God has revealed them to us by His Spirit: for the Spirit searches all things, yea, the deep things of God… Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God... For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ.” I Corinthians 2:10, 12, 16
This “anointing” enables us to partake of the realm of the Spiritual (we have received… the Spirit which is of God). When we are anointed, or in an atmosphere of the anointing, we hear with understanding the deeper meaning of the Word of God (we have the mind of Christ).
